How you install the Retract-A-Gate

The Retract-A-Gate was designed and built to be easy to use and easy to install in any area. Common installation locations Retract-A-Gate works well in:

• Between two walls, two banisters, or a banister and a wall
• Within a doorway
• Around the corner of a walk-way or doorway
• At the top and bottom of the steps or a stairway
• Stair railings or posts including wood, metal, or wrought iron

To install the gate, you will need to attach two brackets to either side of the opening you wish to install the retractable gate. The mounting brackets are all the same and universal so every bracket can be used for every Retract-A-Gate. On both sides of your opening, the brackets mount at about 3 inches and 30.5 inches from the floor. The horizontal distance, across the area you want to block, between the two upper and two lower brackets must be exactly the same so the installation is square to ensure a proper fit. Wall Spacer Set: Used between the mounting brackets and the wall. When installing the Retract-A-Gate, it is important that the brackets are installed so that when the gate is clipped into the brackets, the gate is plumb (vertical). Often times the installation surface is not perfectly level so the spacers can be used to ensure that the brackets are spaced equally across the opening to keep the gate square. The spacers are also used to avoid interference of the gate with a baseboard or molding. Depending on the size or thickness of the baseboard or molding, spacers may be required so the gate can attach to the brackets without bumping into the baseboard or molding.

Stair Banister Adapter Kit: This accessory is used to attach the gate to a stair post or spindle without the need for drilling holes. The adapter is very versatile and can be strapped to a banister post, spindle, baluster, or railing, which then creates a surface for the bracket to be installed to instead of installing the bracket directly to the post or spindle. For the safest installation, we recommend installing the gate at the upper-most or lowest step level on your stairs.

Additional Universal Mounting Bracket Kit: The mounting brackets are universal which means that all sizes and colors of gates use the same mounting brackets. These brackets can be installed in multiple areas inside and outside the home allowing one gate to be used in different areas depending on your safety needs.

How Retract-A-Gate Works

The baby safety gate easily unrolls by pulling the handle across an opening and attaching to the mounting brackets on the opposite side. The retractable gate will cover any opening up to the maximum width of the gate and will lock tightly in place. The maximum opening Retract-A-Gate can cover includes the contribution of the brackets when installed within a walkway opening.

The Retract-A-Gate hooks into mounting brackets that are attached to both sides of the opening. The reel side of the gate snaps into one pair of brackets then the handle side – the side you pull out – hooks into the brackets across the opening. Once the gate is covering the desired opening, it can then be locked in place. The lock is a simple push-and-turn mechanism which is easy for adults to use one-handed, but child safe. Retract-A-Gate is the only baby gate in its class which offers one hand operation as easy as 1…2…3…
